More About Me

I love to eat. I love to cook.  I have always felt that food can really anchor any event whether you are alone, on a date or on business.  Personally, I might have trouble recalling all of the events of the evening or conversations that took place, but serve a lousy meal, lacking flavour and lustre and I will remember.  A great meal can serve as a vehicle for conversation, it can bring people together, it can inspire, it can frighten, it can spark curiousity and it can bring back memories.

Recently my daughter developed a health condition which has since turned out not to be food related but still not diagnosed.  During that time of uncertainty I was convinced she had developed a food allergy.  It just so happened that this event appeared an hour after eating a meal of chicken ceasar salad with garlic bread.  The next evening I served pasta with a simple tomato sauce and the condition presented itself worse by tenfold.  I immediately assumed wheat was the cause of this seemingly allergic reaction and decided to abstain from anything containing wheat until we could see a specialist or allergist to determine otherwise.

During the lengthy waiting process I was in hot pursuit of new recipes to incorporate into our diet that did not contain wheat. What a journey that was! A whole new culinary world was unveiled with ingredients and recipes I had never heard of or seen.  After spending countless hours researching, gathering recipes and presenting new plates to the dinner table, the family consensus was that this was a good thing.  Although my daughter's condition did not improve, she did make mention of the fact that she felt moderate improvements and changes in how she felt overall.  In fact we all noticed that the digestion period post dinner was markedly shorter and did not feel that heavy post dinner fatigue.  Personally I even saw a few pounds drop off.  All good reasons to pursue this new way of eating.
